A hospital asks more of a light fitting than almost any other building. It has to be comfortable for someone lying beneath it for days, bright and shadow-free for someone working over a patient, cleanable to a clinical standard, and stocked from a single small spares cupboard for an estate that runs around the clock. Regents LED supplied the ward and public areas alongside the clinical zones, using the anti-bacterial range through the patient-facing spaces and IP65 sealed panels where wash-down cleaning is required.

Ward Reception & Day Room

Somewhere to Wait

01 / 03
Ward reception and day room - seating, reception desk and corridor beyond

This is where families sit for hours, so the brief was to make it feel less like a corridor and more like a room. RL-CLRD-SM gives the general layer from φ230 up to φ750 in a single family, IP44 against moisture, dust and insects, with colour temperature set by a DIP switch on the fitting itself — which matters on a hospital estate where stores hold one item and the electrician sets it to suit the ward. RL-ABM-KPL08018 takes the recessed positions: a TiO2 photocatalytic coating makes the luminaire anti-bacterial, anti-fouling and self-cleaning, so a fitting in a patient area stops being one more surface that has to be wiped. RL-ST1226 is concealed around the curved ceiling raft to soften the threshold, and RL-LIN-REC runs the corridor beyond as a continuous line, giving the route its own layer.

Ward & Nurse Station

The Ceiling a Patient Looks At

02 / 03
Ward and nurse station - bed bays, nurse station counter and corridor

A ward ceiling is the largest continuous surface above a patient, and the one they spend all day looking at. RL-ABPN2661-40W-REC carries it: a 595 × 595 recessed panel at 40W and 100lm/W, only 11mm deep so it sits flush in a standard grid, with the TiO2 coating giving a stated disinfection rate above 70% in two hours. That is the argument for specifying it over a conventional panel — the fitting works against bio-burden rather than merely tolerating the cleaning regime. RL-LIN-REC handles the linear positions over the bays, and RL-ABM-KPL05012 takes the smaller recessed points through to the corridor, keeping one coating and one maintenance routine across the whole ward.

Clinical Corridor & Prep Room

Sealed, Flush, Shadow-Free

03 / 03
Clinical corridor and preparation room - sealed ceiling panels and clinical doors

Two products cover this zone, because in a clinical area the specification is narrower, not wider. RL-IPPN6331 takes the treatment and preparation rooms: sealed to IP65 so it can be wash-down cleaned rather than dusted, with a rust-resistant iron frame warranted for eight to ten years and a direct-lit matrix of chips spaced off the diffuser to give even, shadow-free light — which is the whole requirement in a room where someone is working over a patient rather than reading a screen. 40W and 60W at 115lm/W, in 600 × 600, 1200 × 300 and 1200 × 600. Through the corridor, RL-ABPN2661-40W-REC continues from the wards, so the estate stocks one panel type across both zones and the anti-bacterial coating runs uninterrupted from bed bay to theatre door.
